A REALLY cute hairstyle.
We went to a graduation the other day, and I did Rebek's hair up in a knotted bun! It was my second time doing it. The first time, it looked AWFUL, this time, it looked a little better. Although, around the bun, it looked a little messy. I put a scarf around it, which was cute and it also added a little Marianne Dashwood! It is now her favorite hairstyle!
I got it from Babes in Hairland. She has a lot of neat hairstyles on there, and us girls have been having fun doing them!
This is what I followed. (and if you do, do it, make sure the hair is nice and damp!) I comment in pink.
Step 1 – I divided the hair into three pony tails.
Step 2 – Divide each ponytail into three sections.
Since the top one had more hair in it (since I hadn’t pulled any out for the sides) I think I did four sections in it.Step 3 – Then starting with one of those smaller sections, make shoe string knots.
So you’re taking two strands of hair tied into a knot – like you would when you begin to tie your shoe.Step 4 – Tie the ends off with rubber bands
Once I’d tied 3 -5 knots in one of those sections I actually used a tiny clear rubber band to tie off the end to ensure I didn’t have little stray hairs coming loose or the knots coming undone. (We didn't do this, but I think I will next time) Plus, then I had something sturdy to slip my first bobby pin through to anchor it.Step 5 – Anchor knots with bobby pins.
I worked backwards compared to the video – from top to bottom. (That's what I did, it worked better) I wanted it a bit fuller around the top. To ensure nothing was falling out or slipping around I put tons of bobby pins in – we counted after we pulled them out that night and there were about 25! (We used 36!) I did my best to keep most of them hidden.Tips:
I also made sure as I did it that I kept the hair nice and damp so as I tied the knots hairs weren’t flying all over. If your little girl has lots of layers, I don’t know how well the knot tying would work.In the end I used plenty of hairspray to make sure everything stayed nice and smooth. (In the video, it says to leave hair at the sides loose, I didn't do that. It still worked)
